Services

Fire Defense of Virginia is a full service fire safety and inspection company, with over 24 years experience. Our inspectors are national certified (NICET) and we offer the following services:

Sprinkler Inspections: Sprinkler systems offer 24 hour protection. Automatic Sprinkler Systems (wet and dry) are required to be maintained in operable condition at all times. Test and inspections are required quarterly and yearly as mandated by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association). These inspections ensure the systems are operable and ready for use should the need arise. Fire Defense of Virginia will perform all required inspections including the five year internal inspection.
Fire Pumps: Standpipe and fire pump systems are required to be maintained and inspected monthly, quarterly and annually. Flow tests of wet standpipe systems shall be performed every five years. Dry standpipes are required to be hydrostatically tested every five years.
Fire Hydrants: Fire hydrants are the Fire Department’s main source of extinguishing fires. A non-operational hydrant could result in the loss of an entire structure. The National Fire Protection Association Code requires an inspection be performed semi-annually and after each use. Flushing is required annually. Traditionally, these inspections are performed in spring and in fall, prior to freeze up.
Fire Alarm Systems: Fire alarm systems offer early detection in case of a fire to evacuate the building and alert the fire department. Fire alarm systems are required to be maintained in operable condition at all times. As well, fire alarm systems shall be tested and inspected semi-annually and also a bi-annual sensitivity test must be done. Included with your Fire Alarm Inspection, we will perform annual inspections of all your fire doors, stairwell smoke evacuating systems, and fire phones.
Fire Door Inspections: A fire door is a door with a fire-resistance rating that is used to reduce the spread of fire or smoke. Most fire doors are designed to be kept closed at all times. Some are designed to stay open but close automatically in the event of a fire. According to NFPA 80 (National Fire Protection Association), annual inspections of fire-resistance rated doors are required. In Virginia Beach, the Local Authorities Having Jurisdiction has adopted this requirement.
Portable Fire Extinguishers: Fire extinguishers are a key component of any life safety strategy. Fire extinguishers can contain fires before they get out of hand. As such, they must always be pressurized and full. A partially charged or neglected extinguisher may not be reliable in a fire situation. All extinguishers must be inspected monthly and annually, and have a 6 year maintenance and hydro test.
Kitchen Suppression Systems: Commercial kitchen environments pose an extra high risk for fire and therefore require extra protection. Wet and dry kitchen suppression systems shall be inspected semi-annually. It is imperative to ensure the cooking appliances' fuel sources are properly interrupted upon activation of the fire suppression system. Kitchen suppression systems must be inspected semi-annually.
Exit/Emergency Lights: Exit signs are a very important piece of safety equipment for buildings to have. Exit signs can make the difference between a person finding their way out in an emergency or being trapped inside the building. Emergency lighting requires test and inspections to be performed semi-annually.
Clean Agent Chemical Systems: Clean Agent Chemical Systems are used for data centers, high value property, record storage, industrial and electrical equipment rooms to help divert a major fire catastrophe. Testing and inspections are required quarterly.
Backflow Device Testing: Backflow inspections are critical to ensuring that clean potable community water supplies don’t become contaminated. Businesses and commercial properties are required to have backflow devices tested annually.
Online Inspection Reports: Forget filing cabinets and searching for old reports. All the reports for your property are stored online and accessible 24/7.
